VAC-2025-0036: SOLAR PLANT OPERATIONS ASSISTANT

The Solar Plant Operations Assistant will play a vital supporting role in ensuring that the solar photovoltaic power plant runs smoothly, efficiently, and safely. This position will be responsible for daily monitoring of the performance metrics of the PV assets. The job holder will report to the Operations & Maintenance Engineer.

Key Accountabilities

  • Monitoring each solar plant’s performance, proactively detecting and resolving anomalies to help achieve operational and production performance targets.
  • Actively participate in maintenance activities.
  • Operating solar PV plant to ensure optimal power generation.
  • Carryout Inverter Performance Analysis and determine the route cause for underperforming inverters.
  • Carryout String Monitoring of all the Strings in the Plant and report on underperforming strings.
  • Update the Daily Generation Report in – terms of Energy Generated per Transformer Station.
  • Determine and Calculate the Performance Ratio, Capacity Utilization Factor by inputting data into the Daily Generation Report.
  • Oversee the Module Cleaning of the Plant to Maintain optimal generation.
  • Collaborate with the Operations and Maintenance Team during the planned and unplanned maintenance activities.
  • Updated Daily Generation Report, Inverter Performance Analysis and String Monitoring.
  • Daily Update of the Logbook.
  • Ensure that all works are carried out in accordance with CEC-R’s HSES Policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Reporting of Any Incidents that occur within the Plants.

To be considered for this role, you will be required to have:

  • Minimum Advanced Certificate in Electrical.
  • Registered member of the Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ).
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in power generation or industrial plant environment.
  • Knowledge of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems for real-time monitoring and control of plant equipment.
  • Experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems.
  • Ability to demonstrate basic working knowledge of PV power generating system fundamentals.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings.
  • Basic knowledge in MS office.
  • Valid driver’s license and ready to travel between sites.
