Access to accurate information is one of the most important protections available to investors in Zambia’s capital markets.

In this interview, Diana Sichone, Director of Enforcement and Legal Services at the The Securities and Exchange Commission, Zambia, explains how disclosure requirements, inspections and regulatory enforcement help ensure that investors can make informed decisions.

She also breaks down what happens when dividends are not collected. Under the Securities Act, unclaimed dividends are held in a dedicated account for 15 years before being transferred to the SEC for investor-protection and market-development activities.
While the Commission may consider exceptional claims after this period, shareholders are encouraged not to wait. Verify your records and claim the money due to you while it remains readily accessible.

This interview forms part of the CEC Unclaimed Dividend Campaign in partnership with Copperbelt Energy Corporation Plc and Corpserve Zambia.
