Copperbelt Energy Corporation (CEC) Group Chief Executive Officer, Eng. Owen Silavwe, has received the Energy Transformation Leadership Award in recognition of his leadership in advancing Zambia’s energy transition at the ongoing Energy Forum for Africa (EFFA) in Lusaka.

The award was presented by Her Honour the Vice President of the Republic of Zambia, Mrs. W.K. Mutale Nalumango, during the official opening of the 2026 Conference earlier this week. It was received on Eng. Silavwe’s behalf by CEC Plc Chief Projects Officer, Eng. Vincent Nyirenda.

The recognition reflects CEC’s long-standing commitment to diversifying Zambia’s energy mix.

Before the country experienced the recent devastating drought and its impact on hydropower availability, CEC had already advanced its renewable energy strategy. In 2023, the Group commissioned a 34MW solar power plant, demonstrating early confidence in solar generation as a reliable complement to hydroelectric power.

CEC has since expanded its solar portfolio to 242MW, strengthening its contribution to Zambia’s energy security and the transition to a more diversified, reliable and sustainable energy future.

The Group is also expanding its operations and renewable energy footprint to other parts of the country, with significant progress already achieved.

Congratulations to Eng. Silavwe on this well-deserved recognition. We value his contribution and leadership and are proud of the progress achieved under his stewardship.

The Group remains committed to supporting him as he leads CEC in strengthening its position and competing effectively in the evolving electricity sub-sector.

CEC is participating in the Energy Forum for Africa 2026 as a sponsor, exhibitor and industry stakeholder.

Being held from 7 to 9 October at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre under the theme “Driving a Borderless Energy Future for Africa,” the Forum provides a platform for engagement on regional power trade, interconnected energy systems and sustainable development.

On day 1 of the Conference, the Vice President toured the CEC exhibition stand and engaged with the team on the Group’s operations and contribution to Zambia’s energy transition.
